About the Waterloo Region
The Waterloo Region office is located in the heart of Canada's Technology Triangle (CTT), a market that includes the urban centres of Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Brantford and Stratford. CTT is home to international companies such as: Toyota, Automation Tooling Systems, Rockwell Automation, Budd Canada, Babcock Wilcock and over 400 high tech companies such as: Research In Motion, Northern Digital, Virtek Vision, Descartes, and Open Text.
The Region's strategic location in the strong Southwestern Ontario market and its excellent transportation, distribution and communication networks, make it a favourable location for business. In fact, over 60% of Canada's population, 40% of the US population and over 71% of the nation's manufacturers are located within a 500-mile radius of Waterloo Region. This market is home to five (5) post-secondary institutions, namely: University of Waterloo (known world-wide for its leading computer science, mathematics and engineering programs); Wilfrid Laurier University (known for its excellent business programs); University of Guelph (known for its natural and physical sciences, social sciences and humanities programs and is Canada's second most research-intensive university); Conestoga College and Mohawk College.
Together, the three universities and two colleges provide access to:
- Over 50,000 post secondary students each year.
- The post-secondary students of the world's largest "co-operative program" Over 10,000 co-operative education students each year.
- Waterloo Region is located one hour from Toronto and 1-1/2 hours from the U. S. border at Niagara Falls and three hours from the U.S. border at Windsor.
