CBRE Has Strong Showing at 2014 REX Awards

CBRE Limited was recognized in two categories including Developing Leader

TORONTO, April 10, 2014 – Notable commercial real estate achievements from 2013 were celebrated in Toronto last night. NAIOP, the commercial real estate development association for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), hosted the thirteenth annual REX Awards. CBRE Limited was recognized with a “Best of the Year” award and also picked up a special individual award.

“We are honored to have been recognized by our peers, especially given the number of achievements over the past year,” said Mark Renzoni, President and CEO of CBRE Limited. “The REX Awards celebrate those who attain superior results for their clients on projects and deals that are best in class. That focus aligns with our own core values and is what makes the REX Awards meaningful for the entire commercial real estate industry.”

The Investment Deal of the Year was Slate Properties’ acquisition of the GE Real Estate Portfolio and Platform. This transaction involved 79 industrial and office buildings across the GTA. GE was looking to reduce their real estate holdings, while Slate wanted to increase their portfolio and profile in the Toronto area. CBRE was the Property Manager on record for the deal and is currently responsible for leasing a number of Slate’s downtown office buildings.

“The REX Awards is one of the few events that are able to attract the top people from across the commercial real estate industry,” said John O’Bryan, Chairman of CBRE Limited. “It was a pleasure to see one of our up-and-coming sales professionals recognized at this event with a well-deserved individual award.”

Jonathan Peretz, Associate Vice President with CBRE, was announced as the Developing Leader of the Year. This award recognizes Jonathan’s significant achievements since joining CBRE in 2005. Specialized in office leasing in downtown Toronto, Jonathan has built up an impressive book of business, having worked with a wide variety of office tenants in the market. He is an active member of NAIOP and is a past co-chair of the JDRF Ride for Diabetes Research. Jonathan has garnered the respect of his peers and is looked upon as a role model by those starting in the commercial real estate industry. Jonathan’s professionalism and zest for life will continue to serve him and his clients well.

CBRE was nominated as the broker of record in two other “Best of the Year” categories: Office Lease of the Year and Industrial Development of the Year.

The Office Lease of the Year nomination was for the 125,000 sq. ft. lease between KPMG and SmartCentres at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. The lease was co-brokered by Bill Davis, Senior Vice President, and Clark McLeod, Associate Vice President, with CBRE. This transaction marked the first step in a multi-phase process to construct a 442.0 acre development, which will contain office towers, residential condominiums, retail space, a hotel and convention centre, community centre and parks.

The nomination for Industrial Development of the Year was for the Serta Design-Build on Huntington Road in Vaughan, which was constructed by Metrus Properties. David Sherwood, Associate Vice President, and Evan S. White, Executive Vice President, from CBRE represented the Serta Mattress Company in their search for a new location. Time constraints and a lack of suitable existing product required ingenuity and perseverance to identify and build a new 263,000 sq. ft. building that met Serta’s needs.

“On behalf of everyone at CBRE, I would like to congratulate all the winners and nominees,” said Renzoni. “Most importantly, we thank our clients for their trust and for working with us to achieve excellence in commercial real estate.”
