CBRE Project Management’s 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic raises close to $1 Million to support leading-edge vision research

Toronto June 23, 2016 – CBRE Limited’s 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic, hosted by its Central Canadian Project Management group in Toronto raised over $7 Million in seven years, making it the largest charitable real estate industry event in Canada. With support from 110 corporate sponsors and matching contributions from private donors, this year’s event raised $906,210 for the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital – Canada’s largest ophthalmology centre.

“When we started this charitable event seven years ago, we identified vision research as a need within our community, as it is an area of healthcare that has historically been significantly underfunded,” said Ron Armstrong, Managing Director of CBRE’s Project Management group in Central Canada. “We are incredibly proud of the fundraising success we have seen from this event year-over-year. We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our employees and partners in the real estate, design, architectural and construction industries.”

On June 16th, 292 golfers participated in the tournament at the Angus Glen Golf and Country Club in Markham, Ontario. The event was attended by CBRE clients, partners and friends from the commercial real estate industry. This year’s special guest was Wendel Clark, one of the most popular Toronto Maple Leaf players of all time.

With an increasing demand on our health system and a growing number of patients living with vision-related diseases, the monetary support this tournament provides is crucial. “The Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre continues to be the leader in vision technology and treatment techniques,”

remarked Mr. Armstrong. “Their surgeons are able to restore or control vision loss for many patients, where just a few years ago, this wasn’t possible.”

“Recent advancements in technology and treatment of serious vision illnesses have been quite phenomenal,” notes Dr. Robert Devenyi, Ophthalmologist-in-Chief, Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre at Toronto Western Hospital. “This is thanks in part to the funding provided by significant donors like CBRE who recognize the growing need for research. Theses dollars have a real impact on our patients’ sight and quality of life.”
