CBRE Tees Off for Vision Research

4th annual golf event raises $1.0 million for Toronto Western Hospital Foundation

TORONTO, June 26, 2013 – CBRE Limited is proud to announce that its 4th Annual Charity Golf Classic in Toronto, hosted by CBRE’s Canadian Project Management group, exceeded its fundraising target once again. With support from 97 corporate sponsors and matching contributions from private support donors, this year’s event raised over $1.0 million for the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital – the home of Canada's largest vision health program. The event is one of most successful of its kind in the Canadian real estate industry, having raised $4.2 million in the past four years to support vision research and programs at the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre.

“I first approached the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre knowing that this event had the potential to make a big difference in our community; however I could not have imagined how the event would grow and how much money we would be able to raise for this great cause,” said Greg Moore, Senior Managing Director of CBRE’s Canadian Project Management group and tournament founder.

On June 20th, 276 golfers participated in the tournament at the Angus Glen Golf and Country Club in Markham, Ontario. CBC News Now’s Suhana Merharchand was the master of ceremonies and the event was attended by CBRE clients, contractors and friends from the commercial real estate industry. CBRE’s Annual Golf Classic assists the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre, which treats over 85,000 patients and conducts over 4,200 surgeries each year in an attempt to prevent or control age-related blindness and other disabling vision challenges.

“The Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre continues to be on the leading edge of vision technology and treatment techniques,” remarked Mr. Moore. “Their surgeons are able to restore or control vision loss for many patients, where just a few years ago, it was not possible. The advancements in technology have been phenomenal, due in part to the research funding stemming from this event.”

“Thank you to everyone involved and to those who have partnered with us over the years. I am proud to say that this event remains one of the largest private charity golf tournaments in Canada. I look forward to our next outing to raise funds for this great cause next year.”
