New Toronto North Office Marks the Completion of CBRE’s GTA Workplace Transformation

Completed in less than a year, CBRE’s entire GTA Brokerage office portfolio offers the healthiest work environments in Canada

Toronto, ON – February 15, 2017 – CBRE Limited (‘CBRE’) today marks the culmination of its GTA Workplace Transformation with the launch of the new Toronto North office, one of the most forward-thinking workplaces in Canada. Located at 2005 Sheppard Avenue East, the office is the eighth CBRE Canada office to be transformed to market-leading standards over the past two years, and the fourth in the GTA in the last 12 months. As one of the healthiest work environments in Canada, the office is registered for WELL Building Certification, the first building standard that focuses exclusively on the health and wellness of people.

Last year, we embarked on a journey to transform our GTA platform and to set new standards within the commercial real estate industry. To have transformed our entire GTA in less than a year is nothing short of extraordinary, and it takes a platform of our scale and expertise to execute,” commented Mark Renzoni, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBRE Canada. “Our GTA transformation is not only about providing our people with an environment that promotes wellness and allows them to do their best work, but it also gives our clients a real-world example of what we can achieve together.”

The entire lifecycle of the GTA project was sourced and executed exclusively by CBRE service lines; including development of the workplace strategy; lease negotiations, project management and move management of over 360 employees with zero hours lost to business downtime.

“The workplace sets the pace for growth; gone are the days where top-talent accepts working in uninspired traditional office configurations. The office has transformed into an experience to enhance both their brand and culture, becoming a powerful tool in the attraction and retention of talent. For us at CBRE, it is a real statement of our investment and commitment to our people that we have created one of the most innovative workplaces in Canada,” added Adrian Lee, Executive Vice President and Toronto North Managing Director.

At the heart of its design, the Toronto North office follows four core design philosophies: wellness, choice, connection, and mobility:

WELLNESS: Following the WELL Building Standard guidelines, the office delivers an unmatched experience of work. Taking a more human centric approach, health and wellness are at the forefront of the design. All employees have Sit-Stand workstations, which enables a higher level of physical movement within the work environment. The HVAC system provides an internal air quality in the top 1% of offices globally and automatically pumps in fresh air from outside when increased levels in Carbon Dioxide are detected, helping to keep staff healthy and energized.

To create acoustic enhancements, noise cancellation technology is installed throughout the office to prevent background noise, a key source of potential stress and distraction. Our collaborative space design creates a working environment that is social and engaged across all lines of business.

Studies have shown that workers who have less exposure to standard electrical lighting are more alert and active, have longer and less interrupted sleep, and report markedly better results in quality of life assessments. Our employees are no more than 25 feet from natural sunlight and the specialized circadian lighting system installed throughout our premises automatically adjusts to brighten or dim lighting levels based on the natural light outside.

CHOICE: Catering to a multigenerational workforce and numerous working styles, the office features seven different types of work spaces. The office gives employees a choice of venues for collaborative work or focused and individual tasks.

CONNECTION: In order to facilitate greater collaboration, the new office features three times the amount of meeting spaces compared to the previous location. The heart of the office is the RISE Café, a focal point that brings people and departments together. Employee amenities and refreshments are purposefully concentrated in the Café to drive foot traffic and create serendipitous collisions among colleagues.

MOBILITY: An advanced technology platform including cloud-based solutions and a digitization program that reduced paper use by 85% enables employees to work effectively beyond their desks. Free addressing stations in the office allow visiting CBRE employees and clients to effortlessly plug-in and be connected in seconds.

"CBRE is pioneering wellness in the Canadian workplace. In fact, of the first 10 WELL Building projects in Canada, we are responsible for four, making us the first company to implement the standard in a meaningful way,” commented Ashley O’Neill, Vice President of Corporate Strategy at CBRE Canada. “When you consider that most workers spend approximately half their waking hours in an office, incorporating wellness concepts into the physical design of your workplace can have a substantial impact on the health and productivity of employees. Furthermore, it impacts 100% of the people working in that space – this is a meaningful investment in our human capital which will create a stronger company for the future.”
