CBRE Ltd. and Makwa Development Corp. Team Up to Pursue Facility Services and Property Management Opportunities

CBRE and Makwa Development Corporation have agreed to enter into a cooperative working relationship to develop and pursue mutually beneficial facility services and property management business opportunities.

CBRE Ltd., a commercial real estate services and investment firm, and Makwa Development Corporation, a 100% Indigenous, privately-owned development company based in the Neyaashiinigmiing Unceded First Nation within the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON), have agreed to enter into a cooperative working relationship to develop and pursue mutually beneficial facility services and property management business opportunities with private sector and government entities in the Province of Ontario.

This is a progressive and unique agreement in Canada between an Indigenous-owned corporation and a commercial real estate organization and is in keeping with CBRE’s soon-to-be-launched Reconciliation Action Plan.

“Together, CBRE and Makwa can move into new areas of business by leveraging each other’s strengths and unique perspectives. There’s also incredible potential to build bridges and produce better service and outcomes for clients,” says Ryan Clayton, Senior Managing Director, CBRE Global Workplace Solutions.“This agreement is an important first step for CBRE in better supporting Indigenous peoples, clients and communities to foster meaningful change.”

“We are excited about joining forces with CBRE, which will enable us to leverage this global company’s expertise in order to identify potential facility services and property management opportunities and then pursue them in a way that provides maximum benefit for all stakeholders,” says K. Shane Chegahno, Vice President of Makwa Development Corporation. “We are looking to build positive relationships with strategic business partners to create real and meaningful opportunities for SON band members and other Indigenous communities in Canada. This agreement with CBRE will do much to help us achieve that aim.”
